Leading Crisis Communication scholars visiting Aalto BIZ

17.12.2012 Professors Finn Frandsen and Winni Johansen from Aarhus University, Centre for Corporate Communication(http://bcom.au.dk/research/academicareas/ccc/) visited the Department of Communication in November. They are experienced researchers and teachers in corporate communication and world leading scholars in crisis communication, and we were very happy to have them in Helsinki for four weeks!

New publication: Social curation in audience communities

17.12.2012 Postdoctoral researcher Mikko Villi has published an article on the involvement of audience communities in distributing content produced by media companies. The article focuses on how the networked media ecosystem and the tools provided by the legacy media and social media companies enable the effortless sharing of such media content that people find relevant, funny or interesting enough to be worth for others also to read, listen or watch. The article contributes to audience studies by theoretically and empirically elaborating on these practices as social curation. Results from a qualitative study among the personnel of a Finnish newspaper indicate that engaging the audience in social curation is more important than involving the audience in content production with or for the company.

Dr. Rita Järventie-Thesleff Appointed Professor of Practice

19.12.2012 The dean of Aalto University School of Business has appointed Rita Järventie-Thesleff, D.Sc. (Econ.) as Professor of Practice for the period of 1.1.2013-31.12.2015. The professorship is at the Department of Communications.

Record number of graduates from our two Master’s Programs in 2012

19.12.2012 We are very happy to announce a record number of Master’s Graduates from the Department of Communication in 2012! A total of 32 students graduated (16 from International Business Communication, and 16 from Talouselämän viestintä) majoring in communication.
