How can change be managed? Breakfast seminar on change management and change communication

14.11.2012

Together with HEKO/Viestintäekonomit (the professional association for business graduates working in communications) and the Department of Management and IB, the Department of Communication offered a Breakfast Seminar on managing and communicating change.

On Thursday morning, 1 November 2012, over 100 participants gathered in the Wihuri Hall to listen to three presentations and engage in lively discussions on change. Auli Packalen (Viestintäekonomit / Communicea Oy) chaired the event, Dean Ingmar Björkman welcomed the participants to AaltoBIZ, and after that

-          Sanna Ahonen (Vice President, Corporate Development, Finnair Oyj) talked about implementing a major strategic change program,

-          Päivi Alakuijala (Communication Director, YIT Oyj) shared her experience from the perspective of  communicating ongoing change,  and

-          Jaani Suominen (Senior Coach, Talent Vectia Oy) focused on organizational and individual resilience in change situations.

To conclude, an academic panel (Prof. Janne Tienari from Management and IB, Prof. Leena Louhiala-Salminen from Communication and Senior University Lecturer Pekka Pälli from Communication) discussed the presentations in the light of recent research. During the morning, ‘change’ was addressed from multiple perspectives, but the tight link between change management and change communication could be detected as an underlying theme throughout  the discussions.
