Professor, Director of the Research Centre for Professional Communication in English (RCPCE) in the Department of English of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Winnie Cheng gives a lecture at the Aalto University School of Economics:

Research into professional genres and corpora: Combining critical genre analysis and corpus linguistics

The talk describes some major findings of a number of on-going research projects that combine the approaches and methods of corpus linguistics and critical genre analysis in the study of different specialised and professional genres and corpora in such disciplines as engineering, financial services, health care, academic research, and news reporting.

The projects are collaborative in nature, involving the Research Centre for Professional Communication in English (RCPCE) of the Department of English, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and various professional associations and companies based in Hong Kong.

The talk also outlines the procedure for building the inter-disciplinary and intercultural professional corpora held in the RCPCE and describes both professional and pedagogical applications of the corpora.
