IBC Evening Seminar on internal communication attracted record audience

23.02.2012

Together with Aalto ECON Corporate Relations, International Business Communication (IBC) organized the 2012 IBC Evening Seminar “Focus on Internal Communication” on Thursday, 16 February. In our present world of continuous change, the topic seems to be a hot issue as more than 70 people had signed up to listen to the two invited experts, one from the academia and the other from the business world.

Dr Mary Welch from the University of Central Lancashire is an internationally acknowledged researcher of internal communication, who has in her work modeled the relationship between internal communication and employee engagement. Her academic presentation "Employee Engagement; Evolution and communication implications" (pdf) was aptly complemented by David Stoneham, who is in charge of internal communications at Nokia. Both presenters were agreed on the significance and complexity of internal communication, and on its impact on employee engagement.

- The number one role of internal communications is the line of sight it can create, David Stoneham said.
