100-year-old School of Economics was celebrated in a dinner organized by Viesti

13.12.2011

Viesti, the communication student society of Aalto ECON, organized a festive dinner to commemorate the 100th anniversary of School of Economics on December 8th 2011. The event, hosted at Proffa staff restaurant, gathered together a happy crowd of communication students, members of the alumni and current faculty members. It was a delightful surprise that so many alumni were present, from the 1950’s to the 2000’s. This surely proves the long history of the Department of Communication.

Viesti_dinner_historiikki.jpgThe program of the evening included a presentation on the history of communication studies at Aalto ECON by Marja-Liisa Kuronen and Leena Louhiala-Salminen. Sonja Anttila, the chairperson of the student society, rewarded these founding mothers of communication studies at Aalto. Also the winner of Viesti’s logo competition was rewarded. Heidi Halttunen said her inspiration for the winning logo came from the fact that communication is indeed everywhere.

New members of Viesti’s board were presented. Michéle Fenech will be the next chairperson of Viesti. Eeva Tähtinen and Mari Ojala will continue in the board alongside Michéle, and Laura Honkanen, Ásthildur Skuladottir and Marhaba Hussain will start as new members. Next year will begin a more international chapter in Viesti’s history since Michéle will be the first chairperson from IBC and there will be international students in the board.

Viesti has been very active during the whole year and the success of the celebration dinner was the cherry on top.
