Metal music researchers, managers and artists to gather once again at the Aalto University School of Business
The MHM Conference will examine e.g. Latin American and Indonesian metal music culture, Iron Maiden and the live music business.
Aalto University School of Business is hosting an international metal music research conference in its Töölö Campus in Helsinki from 27 to 29 June. The Modern Heavy Metal Conference 2018 (MHM) will include more than twenty presentations and panel discussions and guests will include representatives from nearly twenty countries.
This will be the fourth time the MHM is held at the School of Business. The special theme for this year’s conference is ”Live Scenes, Sound Business?”. The researchers’ presentations will offer a varied and multicultural cross-section of metal music research. They will cover a range of topics such as the research of metal music, metal music culture and phenomena in different countries and regions, the live music business and bands. In addition to researchers, the presentation holders and audience will include musicians and representatives from the music industry. The programme will yet again include the “Metal Industry" panel and networking event, organised in cooperation with Music Finland.
Panel discussions between researchers, artists and authors will continue at the Tuska Festival organised in Helsinki from 29 June to 1 July. Over the years, Tuska has become Finland’s leading metal music event. The festival programme will include panel discussions and interviews during which researchers, artists, and authors will delve into metal music culture from various perspectives.
School of Business Academy Research Fellow and Docent in Management of music and culture export Toni-Matti Karjalainen is both the creator and responsible organiser of the conference.
